Arbroath’s seagull-chasing superstar terrier is hoping someone will snap up a one-off special doggie biscuit bearing his name.

Harbour dog Jake has become a sensation with visitors to the town’s marina after the canine character’s gullscaring antics – and off-duty karaoke capers – came into the spotlight.

Jake patrols the quayside with harbour assistant owner Carl Nielsen and over the past few years the lifejacket-wearing pooch has become a hit with visitors, both at the seaside and online through his own Facebook page.

He has now also been given the honour of his own KitKat wrapper after Carl won a competition with his suggestion of a Jake-a-Break slogan for the popular biscuit, and the one-off snack is up for auction online to kit out Jake with a new lifejacket for summer duties.

“He absolutely loves the attention and even more people are coming to the harbour to meet him – some even made the journey specially from Glasgow after hearing about him,” said Carl of his pet, who likes to wind down with a spot of karaoke in his local.

“He laps up the attention but he knows that when his lifejacket goes on he is at his work.

“He takes his role seriously. He chases away the seagulls which can be quite aggressive.

“I entered the KitKat competition with the Jake-a-Break wrapper idea and when I got it sent to me I decided to try and auction it to get him a new lifejacket.

“It’s a complete one-off wrapper so hopefully we can get some interest in it.

“Some of the money will also go to the Dog’s Trust charity, and the new jacket will be able to have a little first aid kit attached to it – even something small like an aspirin could make a difference to someone if they take ill at the harbour.”

Bidding for the Jake-a-Break wrapper has gone to £35 for the unique KitKat on the ebay online auction site, with a week to go before the hammer falls.
