Tayside Opera has presented Verdi’s Nabucco in 1983 and 1993 to Dundee audiences at the Gardyne Theatre. This year Nabucco will be performed at four venues in Courier Country.

The highlight of this great work is the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves. In addition, there are several other outstanding choruses and individual arias.

One of the 1983 props, a golden Menorah (sign of the nation of Israel, see picture below),will be prominent in the temple in Jerusalem as the Israelites await their fate; domination and captivity at the hands of Nabucco.

Two members of the 1983 cast are still singing with Tayside but this time in the chorus! The opera is sung in English, is costumed and staged with outstanding accompaniment on the piano.

Performances take place on Friday, May 19 at Birnam Arts Centre; Saturday, May 20 at the Mechanics Institute, Brechin; Friday, May 26 at Holy Trinity Church, St Andrews and Saturday, May 27 at The Chaplaincy Centre, Dundee University.

Tickets may be bought at the door of the venues if seats are available. To be sure of a seat, prebook tickets for collection and payment at the door. All performances start at 7.30pm. For advance tickets phone box office 07505 837313. For Brechin only phone 01350 727674.
