A strange deception

“A regular reader recently raised the subject of the birthplace of the actor David Niven,” says a Perth correspondent. “Records show that Niven was actually born in Belgrave Mansions, London but for reasons best known to himself he liked to let it be known that he was born in Kirriemuir.

“A strange deception but one which was generally believed to be an attempt to enhance his romantic image. Obviously he believed that being born in Kirrie made him more attractive than being born in boring old London!”
