Spotlight on Cupar

- with Caroline Lindsay craigie@thecourier.co.uk

The peaceful scene in our first picture was captured on a chilly November day in 1953, taken from a bridge over the River Eden close to the town centre.

Warm winter coats are the order of the day and the tot being carried looks well wrapped up.

Note the warning sign about not cycling in Haugh Park.

It seems illicit cycling isn’t just a modern-day phenomenon.

In the next photo, lorries are being kept busy at the Cupar sugar beet factory as they line up to unload their cargo in 1960.

Industrial chimneys belching out smoke were a common sight back then.

A busy day in Cupar town centre back in 1977 is next up. Shops have come and gone and cars and fashions have changed with the times but the buildings themselves still look much the same today.

In our last picture, also taken in 1977, work is in progress on the interior of Cupar swimming pool. The two men chatting in the background look very dapper.
