Round-up of Caledonian Marts prices at Stirling

Caledonian Marts Ltd, Stirling, sold 601 store cattle yesterday.

Also sold were 411 store hoggets and ewes with lambs at foot

Bullocks averaged 226ppk, selling to 281p for a Charolais from Kilmeny and to £1,290 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Loanrigg.

Heifers averaged 220p, selling to a top of 285p for a Limousin from Wester Whin, Slamannan, and to £1,270 for a BB from Easterton.

Bulls ave 169p, selling to 236p for a Simmental from Burnbrae and to £1,000 for a Simmental from Easter Dullatur.

Black and Whites averaged 162p, selling to 179p from Cuff, Beith, and to £700 from the same home.

Leading prices were as follow.

Bullocks: 279p Immeroin, 274p Kilmeny, 271p Easter Gartfarran, 267p Wester Braco and Easter Gartfarran, and 265p Burnbrae.

Heifers: 275p Wester Whin, 265p Craigiever­n, 256p Urquhart, 252p Immeroin and Easterton, and 247p South Woodlane.

Bulls: 210p Upper Whiteston, 204p Newhall, and 189p Easter Dullatur.

Black and Whites: 174p Kirminnoch, 172p Macrindles­ton, 162p Kirminnoch and 160p Cuff.

The sheep sale was topped at £170.

The price was made by a pen of cross hoggets with twin lambs from Stepend.

Store hoggets sold to £70 from Stronmagch­an.

Meanwhile, leading prices in the sheep sale were as follow.

Ewes with twin lambs at foot: ChevX ewes – £158 Walton; Cheviot – £158 Stepend; Cont – £148 Findatie; ContX – £142 Bridgehous­e; BF – £96 Stepend.

Ewes with single lambs at foot: Suff hgts – £130 Stepend; Cross hgts – £128 and £124 Stepend; Chev hgts – £120 Stepend; Chev ewes – £114 Findatie; Cross ewes – £112 Walton; Cont ewes – £110 Bridgehous­e; BF ewes – £82 South Ailey.

Store hoggets: Chev – £62 South Ailey; ChevX – £54 Torloisk; Cross – £52 Stronmagch­an; Cont – £50 Boat of Hatton; BF – £45 Hutton; and BFX – £44 Torloisk.
