Saints refusing to ease off: MacLean

Sixty points now the new target for Perth side, claims striker

They have achieved their season’s goal and more – but there will be no easing off from St Johnstone against Hearts tomorrow night, according to striker Steven MacLean.

The Perth club have qualified for Europe with two games to spare but another two wins have been targeted by players who “go to war for each other”.

MacLean said: “We go into the game against Hearts with a great record against them.

“We’ll rest up and look forward to Wednesday night. Hopefully we get a big crowd in and we can send the fans home happy again.

“At the start of the season we have our aims. The first aim was to get into the top six, and then secure Europe.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for the players, staff and everybody connected with the football club.

“For St Johnstone to be in Europe again and finish fourth in the league is like what the gaffer said before, it’s like winning our own little league.

“We know what we are. We are a good side and work hard. We are built on great work ethic.

“It’s a pleasure to play in and every single one of the boys work hard for each other and go to war for each other.”

Manager Tommy Wright may “tweak” his team tomorrow evening and on Sunday against Rangers but there won’t be big changes.

“We can’t really take our foot off the gas,” Wright said.

“Can we get into 60 points with two wins? That’s what we are going to try and do.

“There will maybe be opportunities to tweak the team a little but ultimately I want to put the strongest team out on merit.”
