Argument led to knife attack

-

A newlywed attacked her husband with a wine glass and kitchen knife after he fell on top of her as she sat on the sofa.

Josephine Patterson snapped amidst a boozy argument that left partner Stephen bleeding from a neck wound and with glass embedded in the back of his head.

The couple had been married for a matter of months when they fell out in spectacular style.

Perth Sheriff Court heard Mr Patterson attempted to defuse matters by going to bed, only to stumble and fall on top of his wife. She responded by grabbing a wine glass and smashing it over his head.

He staggered to the kitchen to grab a knife and point it at her, saying “please stop hitting me”, before dropping it on the floor.

His wife then knocked him to the ground, picked up the knife and cut him, after placing the blade against the back of his neck.

Police officers who visited the couple’s home found evidence of a disturbance, with blood on the carpet and walls and some of Mr Patterson’s hair on the tip of the knife.

The accused, 52, of Bowling Green Road in Milnathort, admitted assaulting Mr Patterson at an address in St Catherine’s Road, Perth, on January 9 by repeatedly punching him on the body, striking him on the head with a glass and with a knife to his injury.

Sentence was deferred until June 21.
