Appointment of provost today
The new provost for Perth and Kinross will be announced this afternoon.
A new group of councillors will meet for the first time to appoint the next ceremonial head.
A Tory-led administration will also be confirmed, as well as a new council leader – likely to be councillor Ian Campbell.
The local Conservative group announced plans for its new partnership administration on Monday morning.
In a statement, the party said it had struck a deal to take control of the local authority with Liberal Democrat, Labour and independent councillors.
However, there was confusion when the area’s only Labour councillor, Alisdair Bailey, announced he was not part of the administration and never had been.
This afternoon’s meeting will be a series of formalities, including agreeing the “political decision-making structure” for the next five years.
Councillors will also be appointed to groups such as Culture Perth and Kinross, Horsecross Arts and Live Active Leisure.
Seven councillors will be selected for the Tayside Contracts Joint Committee, which oversees work by the authority’s contracting organisation.
The group will also include five councillors from Angus and six from Dundee.
A further councillor will be appointed to the NHS Tayside board. He or she will need to be approved by Scottish ministers.
