Kinross angler lands beauty at Loch Leven

-

Stuart Moodie of Kinross AC landed a cracker at the East Buoy at LOCH LEVEN.

Caught on a mini quazzi on a di-7, the fish was estimated at 6lb 8oz and was one of six caught by Kinross AC.

Like the weather, fishing on Loch Leven over the last week has been blowing hot and cold.

Jeff Lawson and Eck Dewar caught 11 trout between them, all around the 1.5-2lb mark and caught in the Hole o’ the Inch.

Alan Campbell also had a nice basket of five trout caught on buzzers, although pulling methods have been working as well.

Alan Steven had two nice trout, one weighing in at just over 3lb, which was released, and the other at 5lb 4oz, which was kept. Michael Wilson had a brownie of just under 3lb.

Pike fishing has been good with all permitted methods producing pike in good numbers weighing up to 20lb.

The best areas for contacting pike are all along the Kirkgate shoreline, Alice’s Bower and the Factor’s Pier with a few also reported being caught from Thrapple Hole to Cavelstone.

Best areas for trout are Hole o’ the Inch up to Levenmouth Bank. East Buoy and Black Wood are both worth a drift.

Fishing at FORBES OF

KINGENNIE has been dominated by strong north and east winds and sunny conditions.

This has made for challenging conditions but returns have been very good.

On the Boathouse the water is still a bit coloured but small flies have been very effective. Small nymphs and buzzers fished on the washing line are taking, as is the bung with a mix of flies fished from 2-4ft deep.

Mr Leslie had a couple of good days landing over 20 fish both times on small dries; Mr Mclay had 11 on olive worms and Mr Johnstone had 13 on the bung.

On the Burnside it has been a similar situation in terms of methods and patterns but at times they have been down a bit deeper. Dry fly fishing has been good, particularly when conditions come right.

Mr Westland had trips of 22 and 19 on buzzers and a fab up to 12lb. Mr Thompson returned 18 and 15 on buzzers and a fab, while Mr Mclay had 18 on olive worms and the bung.

Mr Marshall had eight fish up to 8lb on buzzers and a black lure, Mr Hogg had 12 on the bung and Mr Kirk had 18 on black buzzers and a fab.

At the Woodside, powerbait and spinners have been top but getting in the right spot is the most important aspect.

Over the weekend there were 44 rods landing 79 fish for 139lb.

The Scottish Stillwater Bank Championships were held at Kingennie at the weekend and the results were as follows: 1 Kevin Andrews, 27 fish; 2 William Riddicks, 26; 3 Gregor Hannen 21; 4 Grant McCauley, 18; 5 Stuart Crockett, 18; 6 John Johnstone, 16 fish.

Those six now make up the Scotland Stillwater team for the home international with the reserve place going to Greg McLaren, who had 14 fish.

The heat of the Scottish Club Championships at LAKE OF

MENTEITH was won by Rescobie Loch DA with 28 fish.

SPRA East was second with 19 fish and Future FF, who also had 19 fish, were third.

Rescobie were represented by George Gall, with 10 fish for 20lb 6oz; Ron Gray, 10 for 19lb 10z; and Scott McGregor, eight for 18lb 1oz.
