With so much to do during the busy summer months in Courier Country, there really is no need to jet off in search of fun.

A fantastic programme of events is planned for summer 2017, bringing a sense of excitement across the region.

A great day out for any family is a trip to a local agricultural show – Fife Show takes place on May 20, followed by the Angus Show on June 10 and Perth Show on August 4-5.

Now in its 10th year, the Montrose Music Festival – or MoFest as it has become affectionately known – has brought some big names to the Angus town and this year’s gathering is no exception, with Deacon Blue and The Beach Boys topping the bill over the weekend of May 26-28. The shows will be complemented by free music events running in venues around the town.

Walking is a great way to get out and explore the countryside and the Angus Glens Walking Festival, based in Kirriemuir, has become a highlight of the summer for many. This is the 15th anniversary of the event, which offers more than 20 spectacular walks guided by local mountain leaders and countryside rangers over four days from June 1-4.

With the focus firmly on all things edible, the Crail Food Festival has become an essential outing for local foodies. From June 11-12, the streets of the beautiful coastal village will come alive in a whole host of events with local produce at their heart.

Fife is also the place to be at this time of year if the arts are more up your street. From June 28-July 2, the East Neuk Festival will put on a celebration of classical chamber music, with this year’s line-up including everything from Renaissance lute to Latin Jazz and a musical tribute to Fife’s miners.

The coast of the East Neuk is renowned as an artist’s paradise and each year Pittenweem celebrates the rich base of talent in the area. The Pittenweem Arts Festival runs for nine days from August 5-13 and will feature around 100 artists and makers from all over Britain. Participants exhibit their work in houses, studios, galleries and public spaces throughout the streets of the picturesque fishing village, bringing a wonderful, colourful atmosphere.

Back on the food trail, the fifth Taste Angus Food and Drink Festival takes place in the stunning grounds of Glamis Castle on August 19-20. The event will gather culinary talent from around the region for a showcase of local producers, artisan food suppliers, live entertainment and a kids corner.

It wouldn’t be a Scottish summer without a trip to see those cabers being tossed and bands massed at a Highland Games. Perthshire has some great events to choose from, including the Blair Atholl Gathering and Highland Games on May 27-28 and the Strathmore Highland Games at Glamis on June 11.

Perthshire is also well off for music festivals over the summer, with Rewind turning back time to celebrate some of the music and fashions of the 1980s on July 21-23. From July 27-29, the Southern Fried Festival brings a touch of Americana to the streets of Perth, while the Solas festival celebrates the long summer evenings with a laid-back vibe on June 20-23.

Whatever you enjoy doing, there is an event or occasion for everyone this summer. Keep an eye on The Courier for even more news on what’s happening in your area.
