Young ambassadors appointed
A Young Heritage Ambassadors scheme to encourage youngsters to explore and celebrate the region’s rich history has been launched by Culture Perth and Kinross.
The awards programme recognises under-18s and their projects, either individual or group ones, which discover and share an aspect of local heritage.
To officially launch the scheme, pupils from Blairgowrie High School, Breadalbane Academy, Crieff High School, Coupar Angus Primary School and the Royal School of Dunkeld gathered at Perth Museum and Art Gallery on Friday.
A selection of the children in attendance became the first Young Heritage Ambassadors of the region.
Pupils from Coupar Angus Primary School worked with local artist Frances Law to produce art work and oral history for the art exhibition Voices from the River, currently on display at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.
Rebecca McClune, heritage learning officer at Culture Perth and Kinross, said: “We hope it will encourage young people across Perth and Kinross to explore their local heritage, developing skills and meeting interesting members of their community along the way.
“It’s easy for anyone to get involved, so we hope to be celebrating even more projects this time next year.
“We really feel this is the start of something fruitful and fascinating for the local region.”
