Town could become a ‘concrete jungle’
Blairgowrie residents have raised fears new housebuilding risks turning parts of the town into “concrete jungles”.
A string of applications have been submitted in recent months to create new homes on land in proximity to the new community campus.
Now Stewart Milne has come forward with a fresh plan for 117 homes on land between Maple Place and Piggy Lane.
If successful, it and the Blackthorn Place and West Park developments would see nearly 600 new homes created.
Residents have raised serious concerns about the density and proximity of the housing and whether the town has the infrastructure to cope with such a massive expansion. The capacities of Blairgowrie High School and Newhill Primary are of particular concern.
A number of objections have already been submitted to Perth and Kinross Council calling for the Stewart Milne plan to be blocked.
One resident comments: “These proposals are overdeveloping Blairgowrie and in particular the Rosemount and Ardblair areas into concrete jungles.”
They also accuse developers of “ignoring the current community”.
Another said: “The immediate area is being asked to take too many homes at a single juncture.”
