A toddler was taken to hospital after falling from a window in Perth.

Police rushed to Dunkeld Road after the two-year-old fell from the first floor of a property.

The nature of the boy’s injuries is not yet known but they are not thought to be serious. Locals said he appeared to be unharmed and was alert following the incident.

The flat, which is above a strand of shops on Dunkeld Road, was cordoned off for much of the afternoon while police investigated.

A policeman was stationed outside the front door while a large square of the communal gardens to the rear of the building, as well as a side gate, was cordoned off.

One woman, who works nearby, said: “I know their faces because they come into the shop.

“I don’t know how it’s happened. He’s been taken away in an ambulance but I haven’t heard anything about how he is.”

Another local resident added: “He fell out of the back window.

“Seemingly he was drawing away afterwards – his mum had come down and carried him back up thinking he was ok but he’s away to Ninewells for a check-up.”

It is unclear precisely how far the child fell as the ground floor of the building extends further to the rear than the first floor flat.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We are currently in attendance after reports that a young child had fallen from a first floor window at 12.45pm at Dunkeld Road, Perth.

“The ambulance service is currently in attendance.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call to attend an address on Dunkeld Road in Perth.

“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene.

“One male patient, aged two years, was taken to Ninewells Hospital.”
