There are certain Betfred Cup groups that have the look of a mission impossible for lower league sides. This isn’t one of them. If Brechin could get a win against the top seeds, progression to the last 16 would become a realistic possibility. Sinclair has been signed up on a shortterm deal to cover the Betfred Cup, while wide player Kalvin Orsi has agreed a contract for the season.

Both will be needed today as Chris O’Neil, Finn Graham and James Dale are all suspended, Ryan McGeever is on holiday and Liam Watt is injured.

“We’ll have three subs, one of them being myself,” said Dods.

“It will be a tough game but we’ll give it our best shot. We did well for periods in our last friendly against Dundee.”

Meanwhile, long-serving club treasurer Martin Smith has ended his role after 33 years with the Glebe Park outfit.

Smith’s last report to the club’s annual general meeting advised that a significant £40,000-plus loss was seen last season, and that has been attributed to increased wages and bonuses following promotion and a lack of progress in cup competitions.

However, Smith also advised that next season’s finances looked much brighter as a direct result of promotion.

He will stay on the club’s committee, with secretary Gus Fairlie taking on the role of finance director and Grant Hood taking over from Fairlie.

Chairman Ken Ferguson commented: “Martin has given the club exemplary service for the last 33 years and I pleased to still have his experience on board.”
