Young is delighted to add central defender to squad

-

East Fife manager Darren Young was delighted to add central defender Ben Gordon to his squad before they set off for Peterhead.

The former Dumbarton, Alloa, Livingston and St Mirren stopper has signed a deal until January, with Young saying: “We have Jonathan Page, Kyle Wilkie and Kevin Smith out injured and they are our three most experienced players.

“Having Ben on board will help reduce their loss.

“We managed to get the deal over the line and we did that despite interest from full-time teams.”

Young believes today’s game is a bit of a trip into the unknown.

He said: “When I was at Albion Rovers we played against Peterhead over the last couple of seasons.

“However, their line-up now looks to be very different. They have added a lot of experience and they have added a lot of quality.

“This will be a real test for us so early in the season, but it is important that we get off to a good start as we have games against Dunfermline and Hearts to come.

“The injuries have left us a bit stretched squad-wise. I have registered myself as a player to add another body, but I will not be starting.

“It will be a tough game to win as Peterhead will be determined to move away from their disappointment at being relegated and will view this game as a chance to do that.

“However, we are going there looking for the win.”

Aaron Dunsmore, Mark Docherty and Paul Willis have been recruited by Young over the summer.

Winger Nathan Flannagan has also been added after his loan deal from St Mirren.

New boy Kieran Millar is out through suspension, and the re-signed Mark Lamont is an injury doubt.
