College offers new teaching course

-

Perth College UHI is offering its first course for prospective primary school teachers.

The professional graduate diploma in primary education consists of 18 weeks of study at the college, plus 19 weeks of professional practice in schools.

This is the first year the course will be delivered at Perth College UHI.

Lecturer Katrina MacIntyre described the diploma as an “exciting opportunity” for the people of Perth and Kinross.

“It allows students to develop the knowledge and skills required for their career in teaching without moving away from home,” she said.

“It has a focus on building strong links with the local authority while educating teachers to work within our schools. Our new students are already prepared for their upcoming placement and we’re looking forward to strengthening relationships with our local primary schools.”

Student Michelle Millar said: “I chose this course as I have always wanted to be a teacher. I am interested in the way children learn and develop and would like to be a part of this process.

“I chose Perth for two reasons – the first is that I started my academic journey at Perth College UHI, first completing my NC followed by my HNC before completing my degree. It felt right to finish my journey at Perth.

“Secondly, I like the way the course is delivered through a blended learning approach.”
