Answers sought on Fife woman’s death

- Jonathan Watson

Community members have called for clarity from the police after the death of a woman outside her Dunfermline home.

Margaret Campbell was discovered by neighbours in the back garden of her Izatt Avenue home on Monday morning with what are believed to be stab wounds.

She died later that day from her injuries, and police are treating the 66-year-old’s death as “unexplained”.

Local residents said yesterday that they hoped to receive answers as soon as possible.

One neighbour said: We still don’t know what has happened . . . as we have not heard anything from the police. It would be nice to know what is going on as I do know that people are worried.”

A heavy police presence remained in Izatt Avenue yesterday, with officers in place outside the small terraced property where Mrs Campbell lived.

It is understood neighbours saw the wounded pensioner at around 7am on Monday before raising the alarm.

Despite being rushed to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital, Mrs Campbell died of her injuries hours later.

Police confirmed on Monday that they were treating the death of Mrs Campbell as “unexplained”. Detective Inspector Paul Dick said a major investigation is under way, with a report submitted to the procurator fiscal.
