Volunteers wanted for clear-up

-

Volunteers are required to help with a clean-up at a Perthshire woodland.

Woodland Trust Scotland has organised the event, which will take place at Ballathie Bluebell Wood near Kinclaven from 10am until 1pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for the conservation charity said: “The oakwood, which was purchased by the trust earlier this year, has a few old items such as pheasant feeders and drums lying around. The plan is to collect these together in one place for removal.

“Those who are coming along should wear warm and waterproof clothing with plenty of layers, and sturdy footwear – wellies or walking boots. We will provide all the equipment we need but feel free to bring your own tough gardening gloves if you prefer.”

Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided but participants should bring a packed lunch if they want to eat in the wood afterwards.

Woodland Trust Scotland bought Ballathie Bluebell Wood with a donation contained in the will of a long-term supporter. The person’s family wished to remain anonymous but stipulated that the money should be spent in Tayside.

The site comprises a 125-acre ancient oakwood called North Wood and 79 acres of grassland known locally as Court Hill. It is home to a variety of wildlife species, including red squirrels and pine martens.

Those attending should meet at the woods’ western entrance.
