STAMPS
Perth Philatelic Society starts its 72nd season tonight at 7.30pm at the West End Bowling Club, Gray Street, with displays by the current and past president.
Immediate past president Tony Cochrane will show and describe mailed envelopes from the British and Indian Army serving with the China Expeditionary Force between 1900 and 1926. President Norman Watson will exhibit examples of the world’s first postage stamp – the famous Penny Black – on envelopes sent in 1840 and 1841.
ALYTH
The Alyth Literary Society starts its new season on Tuesday with an illustrated talk by Eric Summers of Kirriemuir entitled Churchill Connections.
Mr Summers will explore links with the wartime leader in Angus and east Perthshire.
The talk starts at 7.30pm in the Ogilvy Rooms, Commercial Street, Alyth.
The annual membership fee is £8 and admission for non-members is £2. BLAIRGOWRIE Blairgowrie Tennis Club raised approximately £2,500 from its fundraising charity shop at J&J Howe’s former premises in Leslie Street.
This will go towards the club’s new pavilion at its base at the JJ Coupar Recreation Park, Coupar Angus Road.
DUNNING
The coffee morning held by the Macmillan Cancer Support Group raised £1,300, which was donated to the Perth and Kinross group.
The organisers thanked all who contributed.
DONATION
The Luing Society raised £1,125 at its annual farm visit to Berryfell Farm, Hawick.
The cash went to the Guide Dogs for the Blind, which was chosen by the society’s host family, Elizabeth and Wilbert Girvan. Mrs Girvan has been involved with the charity since the early 1980s.
Wilbert Girvan presented a cheque to Frances Pringle from The Guide Dogs for the Blind.
