Police renew call for witnesses to fatal road accident in Fife to come forward

Witnesses who saw a fatal road accident in Leven at the weekend have been urged to come forward as the police investigation into the tragedy continues.

Police so far have not named the 68-year-old woman who was knocked down and killed as she crossed the road near the Riverside Retail Park at around 3.45pm on Sunday, although her next of kin have been informed.

Detectives said they are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident on Aitken Street or who may have been in the area just moments before the woman was struck by a white Mazda 2 TS2.

The Courier understands the vehicle involved was being driven by a woman, who was left extremely shaken by what happened but was unhurt, and it is not known at this stage if any charges are likely to be brought against her.

The main road into the retail park was cordoned off by police for several hours following the incident, but it was reopened at around 8pm on Sunday.

Police have managed to speak to a number of people who saw the collision, but they believe there may be many more who could help them with the investigation.

Riverside Road, which runs alongside the retail park, also serves the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket, which would have been busy at the time.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, of Fife’s road policing unit, said: “I would urge anyone who may have seen the small white Mazda driving around the Leven area or witnessed the collision to get in touch as soon as possible.

“I would also be interested in hearing from anyone with any dash cam or other footage relative to the small white car or the collision itself.”
