POPPY APPEAL:

The Scottish Poppy Appeal in the villages of Balbeggie, Guildtown and Wolfhill raised £521.56. The organisers thanked those who made doorto-door collection­s and also the businesses who displayed collection tins.

ALMONDBANK:

St Serf’s Church, Almondbank, is holding its Christmas fair in the church from 10 am to noon tomorrow. Stalls include craft, cake and candy, tombola, and lucky dip. There will also be a visit from Santa.

CHRISTMAS MARKET: Perth Methodists are holding a Christmas market at Scott Street from 10am to 2pm tomorrow. There will be the usual stalls and a café serving morning coffee, home baking and snack lunches.

ABERNETHY:

The lighting up of Abernethy Christmas tree in Nurse Peattie’s Memorial Garden, Abernethy, will take place on Friday December 8 at 6.30pm. The Rev Douglas Maine will open the event to be followed by a carol service.

WOODCRAFTE­RS:

The Perthshire Woodcrafte­rs are holding a Christmas craft fair on Saturday December 2 from noon to 4pm at the Moncreiffe Community Centre, Glenearn Road, Perth.

BURNS CLUB:

The 14th celebratio­n of St Andrew’s Day, organised by Perth Burns Club, will take place on Saturday December 2 in the Soutar Theatre of the AK Bell Library from 1.15pm to 5pm.

The event has a reputation for attracting high quality speakers and this year organisers will welcome writer Dr Gerry Hassan, Willie Shand, who is a contributo­r to The People’s Friend and Scots Magazine, and journalist Magnus Linklater.
