Two Dundee hockey stars have been selected for the Great Britain Elite Development Programme,

writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

Grove Menzieshill’s Cameron Golden and Callum MacKenzie, who plays for Grange, are in the squad of 35 players.

The players will attend training camps and days at Bisham Abbey and Lilleshall as well as a warmweather training camp in Lisbon in January.

They are likely to play a number of games in the build-up to the U21 Junior World Cup in Belgium next July.

Meanwhile, it is something of a blank weekend at national level with only a few outstanding games being rescheduled.

St Andrews University’s chances against Gordonians are limited.

Perthshire II lead the way in Midland Division 1 with six wins from seven games, followed by Wanderers III, Dundee University and St Andrews University.

The Dundee University team withdrew from the National League and only entered one team in the Midland League in order to start a rebuilding process after a difficult season.

Perthshire have been developing young players for a number of seasons and this is bearing fruit in terms of the performance of their first team in the National League and also their seconds and thirds in the Midland League.
