When Flossie Malavialle arrived at Darlington Folk Club one night in 2002 and asked if she could sing a few songs she wasn’t to know that it would be the beginning of a new life.

The Nimes-born former French teacher had been singing at home in France for years and already had a large and varied repertoire of songs.

Her repertoire has since become even more varied as shortly after she sang in Darlington she began winning fans all Kinblethmont Gallery is currently showing off a quartet’s fine wares.

Falkirk-born half-Dane Lys Hansen is a figurative painter whose work revolves around family, heritage and conflict, while Stonehaven-based Colin Brown is also drenched in European sensibility having worked in Florence and Düsseldorf.

He has also won several awards such as the 1996 receipt of an Artist’s Grant from the PollockKrasner Foundation. over the UK and gave up her job at a school in Stockton-on-Tees to tour the folk scene, singing everything from Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf chansons to Antonio Carlos Jobim bossa novas and country songs by the Judds and Willie Nelson.

These days she is based near Bishop Auckland and her concerts are acclaimed not just for her singing but also for her entertaining banter, delivered in a Franco-County Durham brogue.

In that same year, Arthur Blair was studying at the California College of Arts and Crafts where he developed his love of the Mezzotint printmaking technique.

Now a resident of Leysmill in Angus, Blair has added landscape painting and sculpture to his repertoire.

Finally, Ukrainian Eduard Belsky’s sensual brush strokes and evocative work with colour has brought him acclaim across Europe and the USA.
