Bid to mark link with drovers

-

A community project to celebrate Crieff’s links with drovers has been given a funding boost.

Locals want to raise £30,000 to install three Highland cows on Burrell Square.

Each figure will be covered in metal leaves bearing the names of donors.

The metal sculpture would replace a wicker cow that was installed in the spot to celebrate the Ryder Cup in 2014.

Perth and Kinross Council’s creative community fund has awarded £1,300 to the project.

The funding from the Creative Community Fund will go towards an interactive information board which will be located next to the sculptures and will provide information in both English and Gaelic.

Kim Osborne, chairwoman of Crieff in Leaf, said: “The aim of the project is to engage with the community in order to create a landmark that will enhance civic pride and act as a draw for visitors. We hope to install the sculptures during the summer and that they will help make the square an attractive place for locals, walkers, cyclists and other visitors.

“To get to this point in the project has been a lot of work for the team, but we’ve had a lot of support along the way to help us raise the funds for the sculptures themselves and as members of the Take a Pride in Perthshire Association we have been able to draw on their project management expertise.”
