Store and breeding cattle sold

Caledonian Marts Ltd, Stirling, had forward 348 store and breeding cattle yesterday. Bullocks ave 216ppkg, selling to 275.5ppkg for a pen of Limousins from A Dunn, Redhall, Gargunnock, and to £1,280 for a pen of Limousins from W and T Nelson, High Kilphin, Ballantrae.

Heifers ave 217ppkg selling to 252p for a pen of Limousins from High Kilphin, Ballantrae, and to £1,160 for Limousins from Crawtree Farms. Black and White bullocks ave 145p selling to 186p from Macrindles­ton Farm, Girvan, and to £780 from W Baxter, Gryfeside, Kilmacolm. Bullocks per head: £1,220 Mains of Burnbank, £1,160 Hill O Harthill, £1,150 Shields (Fairley), £1,130 Wester Pirleyhall, £1,120 Hill O Harthill. Bullocks per kilo: 272p Redhall, 254p High Kilphin, 249.5p Mains of Burnbank, 244.5p Wester Whin, 243p Mains of Burnbank.

Heifers per head: £1,130 Lammerview, £1,090 High Kilphin and Lammerview, £1,080 High Kilphin, £1,060 Hill O Harthill, £1,050 Crawtree. Heifers per kilo: 252p High Kilphin, 231p and 230p Loanleven, 229.5p Lammerview, 229p and 228p Camreggan, 227p Loanleven.

Black and Whites per head: £730 and £720 Bonnyhill, £710 Gryfeside, £700 Powguild. Black and Whites per kilo: 160p Macrindles­ton, 159p Killarow (Campbeltow­n), 154p Macrindles­ton, 151p Walton (Kinloch). Breeding cattle sold to £750 for a Shorthorn Bulling Heifer from AR MacKay, Stronmagac­han, Inverary.

Also sold 1,025 store hoggs and feeding ewes. All classes of hoggets were a similar trade to last sale, and more could have been sold to sellers advantage with short keep lambs keenly bid on.

Top price of the day went to J Lambie, Knockdaw, for a pen of 20 Texel X lambs at £73.
