Scotland women were held to a goalless draw by Russia in their challenge match in Murcia, Spain.

Head coach Shelley Kerr made eight changes from the side which started in the 3-0 friendly defeat to Norway in La Manga on Friday night.

Caroline Weir fired an early free-kick inches past and Jane Ross, one of three survivors from the Norway game along with Jennifer Beattie and Sophie Howard, twice went close.

Russia, two places behind Scotland in the Fifa world rankings in 25th spot, offered little by way of an attacking threat.

The second half brought more Scotland pressure and a late debut for Hibernian Ladies’ Abi Harrison as replacement for Ross and she drove an effort wide of the target, but ultimately Kerr’s side failed to find a way past the Russian defence.

Harrison told scottishfa. co.uk: “Making my Scotland debut is something I’ve been working towards for a long time so I’m delighted to finally do it. It tops off what has been a really enjoyable trip.

“This has been a step up from what I’m used to at Hibernian but it’s been about learning from the more experienced players and coaches.

“I had a chance late on and I was disappointed to see it go wide but it’s just made me hungry for my next opportunity.”
