Perth martial arts expert accused of sex abuse

HIGH COURT: Woman tells of being seduced at the age of 15 by instructor

- Vic rodrick

A woman has accused a Perth martial arts expert of sexually abusing her with the kung fu weapon nunchucks when she was just 15 years old.

The woman, now aged 33, said she was in a relationship with Gary Lee Goodrum when he subjected her to the bizarre indecent act.

She told a jury that Goodrum was well aware that she was under 16 when he started abusing her sexually at his parents’ home and at an industrial unit in Dalgety Bay where the Gary Lee Martial Arts Academy was then based.

Giving evidence via a CCTV link , the woman told the High Court in Livingston how Goodrum seduced her by telling her she was “attractive” and “pretty” before touching her intimately and asking her to have sex with him.

She said: “He got nunchucks which were black with a silver chain on the side and he put them inside me as well. It’s a martial arts thing, it’s like two batons of wood connected with a chain.”

Asked how she was feeling when he was doing sexual things to her, she replied: “I can remember being anxious. He was encouraging. He was very coaxing and trying to manipulate me into it.

“He undressed himself. I can remember being shocked. He’s a very hairy man – front, back – everything.”

The woman said: “I didn’t have a lot of experience. It was quite a scary thing.”

She added: “He had a full sexual relationship with me.”

Goodrum, 38, of Corsiehill, Perth, denies seven charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour towards underage girls from April 1998 to March 2009.

He is also accused of an indecent assault, a sexual assault and one instance of having unlawful sex with three girls.

The trial, before Lord Woolman, continues.
