ALBION ROVERS 0 FORFAR ATHLETIC 1

Forfar took a major step in their bid for League One survival after beating their fellow basement battlers at Cliftonhill on Saturday to move seven points clear of Rovers.

With 90 minutes on the clock, the game looked to be finishing goalless. However, substitute Josh Peters bagged an injury-time winner.

The scorer couldn’t hide his delight.

He said: “Dale Hilson got the ball and I knew he would slip me in.

“I probably got away with the first touch – it wasn’t the best. I have not really looked at the goal and hit it first time. It was just a brilliant feeling.

“I scored here last time as well and I had a good feeling that if I went on I would make an impact. That moment when the ball went into the net was unbelievable, probably one of my most important goals.”

The striker knows that there is still work to be done to secure League One status.

He added: “It’s not over yet. We still have three games left and anything can happen but I think it is in our own hands now. Coming away with three points is massive.”

Jim Weir’s side could have won by more if they were more clinical.

Albion only registered one shot on target but captain Alan Reid’s free-kick lacked power and was saved by keeper Marc McCallum.

The Loons lost Eddie Malone to injury after only 20 minutes but went on to dominate.

At the death, Hilson crossed the ball into Peters who showed great composure to smash home to spark the celebrations.
