A strong number of horses and ponies were forward for the overall supreme in-hand horse champion at Fife Show.

Tom Best, from the Waxwing Stud near Dunfermline, was the judge and his choice for the overall tri-colour sash was the Shetland champion from Donna Lochrie’s Mawcarse Lady Dionne.

The eight-year-old mare was bred by Donna’s aunt, the late Janet Murray, and is by Stow Vulcan and out of Donna’s mare Hawsdale Dizie.

Mr Best’s choice for the reserve was the part-bred champion, from Mrs Fiona Stewart, Rannoch, Hill Tarvit Mains, Cupar, with Aytounhill Casanova.

The eight-year-old gelding is by the Royal Highland Show champion Stanley Grange Regal Heights and out of the home-bred mare Aytounhill Carousel. She was previously supreme in-hand at Central and West Fife Show.

The overall reserve in-hand native pony champion was the Highland pony from Willie Simpson.

This was Chapelhill MacGregor, a three-year-old colt by Chapelhill Harry and shown by Willie’s daughter Louise.

With a host of qualifiers, the cob championship went to the heavyweight winner The Ranger, shown by Start Ashton.

In the riding horse championship, it was the elegant lightweight winner Brookvale Star Attraction that was judge Denise Richardson Rowell’s choice for the tri-colour rosette. Owned and ridden by Vicky Campbell, the 12-year-old gelding qualified for the Horse of the Year Show last year.

Overall champion of the coloured horse section was Jackie Bruce’s Indian Way, shown by Morag Snow, who hunts the 10-year-old skewbald gelding.

In the showjumping rings there was great support in all the classes. Showjumping organsier Sandra Low Mitchell from Balcormo Stud started off the day with a win in the opening 1.20m open class with Victoire X.

Fellow Fife rider Alana Hood later accounted for the 1.1m open with Just Elody.
