Inspecting troops

-

“Your recent picture of the Queen Mother inspecting troops was in Forfar around 1955 or 56,” confirms Charles Gow. “The young officer on her left is my father, Sandy Gow (Capt J A H), who was in command of Forfar Company 4th/5th Black Watch at that time.

“The more senior officer on my father’s left was Col Campbell Adamson and we think the Lord Lieutenant would have been the then Lord Airlie.

“Unfortunately, my father, who is now 91 years old and living in Ayr, cannot remember any other names. He thinks the event might have been the Queen Mother receiving the Freedom of Forfar.

“There is another photograph taken from a different angle with a lamp post directly in line with my father’s sword which makes it look as though he is holding it up. I will let you have a copy of the photo when I get it. It has always been a source of amusement.”
