Kinross student wins prestigious university industry scholarship
A Kinross student has been awarded a prestigious university scholarship.
Georgina Beavan was one of only 16 candidates selected for the ScottishPower programme out of more than 270 who applied.
The scholarship will allow the 22-year-old Strathclyde University student to complete her master’s in data analysis.
The aspiring engineer is keen to use her skills in the energy industry.
She said: “In the future, I’d like to get into a technical role in either renewables or smart metering, where I can gather and analyse data to find out how we can make our lives more efficient.
“I am very ambitious and want to get high up in the industry, and go on to work in a management role.”
The scholarship was launched in 2010 in response to the growing demand across the energy, digital and environmental sectors for more experts in these fields.
It provides students with full enrolment costs for their chosen master’s, as well as £1,200 a month to support their living costs.
Georgina will work with a ScottishPower mentor through her master’s year to develop her skills for future career prospects.
Hamish Watson, of ScottishPower, said: “The ScottishPower scholarship embodies the principles of our business to attract and retain a diverse workforce that is enthusiastic about the future of the industry.
“This year, we’ve received our highest number of applicants to date. It’s hugely encouraging to see the appetite from students who want to progress their studies in the energy sector.”
