Funding plea from social club
Members of a Perthshire community group are urging locals to vote for them in a funding contest.
The Burrelton and Woodside Senior Club wants to open a social club and is seeking financial backing from the Aviva Community Fund 2018.
Marie Milne, of Burrelton and Woodside Senior Club, said: “The aim of having a social club is to provide a meeting place for older people in a warm and safe environment where they feel welcome and less isolated and can experience fun and friendship.
“Our senior club has been established for over 50 years and provides companionship and a sense of community for its members. For many residents, the club provides something to look forward to and the chance to get out of the house and meet up with friends.
“For those who are usually housebound or who don’t have friends and family living close by, the club provides a vital lifeline and link to the wider community. In May, we have an annual coach trip with entry to an attraction, plus morning coffees and high teas.
“A Christmas lunch with entertainment is held in a local hotel and all the members receive a small gift.”
The community fund will finance more than 500 projects across the UK.
Supporters have until November 20 to vote for their favourites.
