Fears over waste sta­tion

A com­pany which col­lects clin­i­cal waste from hospi­tals across Scot­land is said to be fac­ing cri­sis.

North La­nark­shire­based Health­care En­vi­ron­men­tal Ser­vices, which has a trans­fer sta­tion for waste in Dundee, pre­vi­ously lost con­tracts from NHS Trusts in Eng­land af­ter it emerged large amounts of hu­man waste, in­clud­ing am­pu­tated limbs, had built up at five sites. A crim­i­nal in­quiry was launched and now the com­pany says it will lose its NHS Scot­land con­tract in April. It is not yet known how jobs in Dundee will be af­fected.
