Cowden look to keep on quietly climbing table

-

Cowdenbeath are hoping to continue their stealth-like climb up League Two with a win over visitors Clyde.

However, Central Park assistant manager Mark Fotheringham knows that you can never relax against the Bully Wee.

Danny Lennon’s title-chasing side were three down to Berwick Rangers last weekend but they came out of the game with a point due to the spirit they showed.

Fotheringham believes that to get the better of the Broadwood team a second time this season, the Blue Brazil will need to be ruthless.

He said: “Clyde produced a good fightback and will feel that they could have gone on to win as they got it back to 3-3 with 20 minutes to go.

“They do not give up, so we cannot afford to switch off against them in defence and we have to take our chances when we get them.

“They have a good experienced manager in Danny Lennon and whilst David Goodwillie is an exceptional player at this level, they are not a oneman team.

“Chris McStay and Raymond Grant are really good players who have gone to Clyde to use it as a platform to build their careers and they are doing that well.

“We knocked them out of the Scottish Cup earlier this season with a fine display and we will need that level of performance again.”

Last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Albion Rovers saw Gary Bollan’s side climb into sixth place. However, they could have been in the top half.

Fotheringham said: “It was two points dropped as far as we were concerned. Albion were dogged and hard-working and the game was played on a difficult pitch. However, we created chances.

“We were disappointed, but we will move on to the Clyde game.”

Jason Talbot returns but Robbie Buchanan misses out after being sent off last weekend, with Pat Scullion and Martin Scott remaining absent.
