Export deal opens India to lamb trade

-

British lamb could soon be served in restaurants in India thanks to a new export deal.

The deal is estimated to be worth around £6 million over the next five years.

AHDB’s international market development director, Dr Phil Hadley, said: “India represents a smaller market for our sheep meat exporters but one with the potential for future growth due to its growing population and income.”

Stuart Ashworth, from Quality Meat Scotland, said: “The imminent opening of the Indian market is a signal of the growing global opportunities that exist for our high-quality products. This is a welcome boost to confidence and underlines the positive growth in demand which we have seen over the years for Scottish sheep meat of excellent quality and provenance.”
