Go-slow zone on A9 as Dunkeld crossing gets urgent overhaul

Motorists on the A9 have been warned to expect delays as work gets under way on a busy Tay crossing.

Essential maintenance is being carried out on the Jubilee Bridge, north of Dunkeld.

The project involves replacing a damaged joint to ensure the 41-year-old structure continues to operate safely.

Work was scheduled to begin last night and is expected to last for a week.

To keep work crews and motorists safe, temporary traffic lights will be in place over the course of the project.

Bear Scotland spokesman Eddie Ross said delays were likely.

“These essential bridge maintenance works will allow our teams to safely replace the bridge joint on the Jubilee Bridge which carries the A9 over the River Tay north of Dunkeld,” he said.

“The joint is damaged and in need of urgent replacement to ensure the bridge continues to function safely and sustains no further deterioration.”

Mr Ross said: “The traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe during the project, however our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank road users for their patience in advance and encourage road users to plan their journey by checking the Traffic Scotland website and leaving some extra time to complete their journeys.”

The bridge, which refers to Queen Elizabeth’s silver jubilee in 1977, could be replaced as part of the £3 billion A9 dualling project.
