Bad-tempered encounter sees Kelty defeated and off top spot

-

Kelty Hearts slipped to second place in the Lowland League following a tempestuous 3-0 defeat at home to BSC Glasgow.

Barry Ferguson’s men had been on the end of questionable decisions when things exploded on 33 minutes when Ciaran Chalmers was ordered off for an alleged kick at a BSC player.

Things got worse for Ferguson’s men within a minute of the restart as they went behind courtesy of an own goal and 10 minutes later Martin Grehan seized on hesitancy in the Hearts defence to make it 2-0.

It was all over on the hour as Robbie McNab made it 3-0 with a virtuoso effort.

As if Hearts’ day couldn’t get worse, Stephen Husband was the second Kelty player to see red as he was sent off for a bad tackle on David Verlaque.

Oakley United made it one defeat in five at Peebles Rovers.

However, it was a second draw when wins are needed if they are to stand any chance of making the conference top five.

James McAteer has hit a rich vein of form in front of goal and he scored both of United’s goals.

Hill of Beath closed the gap on leaders Penicuik Athletic back to three points after a 2-1 win over the table- toppers at Keirs Park.

Joe Kirby beat three players on his way to giving the Haws a 30th minute lead but Penicuik deservedly equalised midway through the second half with a Sam Jones header.

Lewis Payne then hit the winner with four minutes left, while the visitors were reduced to 10 men in stoppage-time when Greg Page was sent off.

Conference B

A Jonny Galloway goal on the hour mark levelled things up for Burntisland Shipyard at Dalkeith Thistle but the home side upped it a gear to run out 3-1 winners.

Dundonald Bluebell blew Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale away in a first half blitz with goals in a 4-2 win coming from Ross Mutch, Ross Drummond, Archie Campbell and Lewis McKenzie.

Conference C

St Andrews United enjoyed an emphatic 5-0 win away from home at Craigroyston.

Jeanfield Swifts are now second after beating title rivals Broxburn at Riverside 2-0, with goals from brothers Scott and Fraser Smith.

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts lost 3-0 to Preston Athletic at but remain three points clear of basement club Ormiston.
