The perfect plan shows boss is on right wavelength

- IAN ROACHE

“Tommy, Tommy give us a wave” was the loudest chant from the away section at Pittodrie on Saturday.

The Northern Irishman obliged from the dugout and the supporters were happy that their call was answered.

It was significant that it was the manager rather than an individual player who was being lauded and applauded by the fans.

They are an educated lot down McDiarmid way and could no doubt see that it was his tactics – not for the first time – that won the day.

The mutterings in the press box were of how it was a carbon copy of Wright’s plan that was executed at Easter Road a month earlier to secure a 1-0 victory over Hibs.

Wright is not a loud, attentionseeking kind of guy but instead is happy to do most of his talking on the pitch.

He did that with a game strategy that worked perfectly and the only surprise about his new contract – agreed last week – is that it took the time it did to get sorted.
