Tennis fans can see the light

-

Tennis players at Dunkeld and Birnam Tennis Club will soon be able to play all year round after winning funding to install floodlighting at their courts.

Club members will receive more than £22,500 from Sportscotland’s Sport Facilities Fund (SFF) to put up the lights, in the hope it will encourage more people to play.

The floodlighting is part of a larger project to resurface the courts and introduce a practice wall for juniors.

Perthshire North MSP John Swinney said: “I’m delighted to hear Dunkeld and Birnam Tennis Club have been successful in applying for Sportscotland funding.

“The installation of floodlights will allow the club to play tennis matches all year round, thereby increasing opportunities for members and the local community to make use of the facilities.

“I’m also pleased to hear the club will be introducing a practice wall for juniors, thereby ensuring that promising young players can continue to hone their skills.

“Accessible and highquality sports facilities are of tremendous value to local communities, particularly those in rural areas.

“Accordingly, this investment will have a potentially transformative effect on the area and will be welcomed by all.”

The Sport Facilities Fund (SFF) offers awards of up to £100,000 to increase participation in sport.
