Cash helps adults of tomorrow explore their area from the past
Young people in Perthshire have won funding to explore their local heritage – including a bid to rejuvenate the sport of curling.
The scheme will go ahead after parents at Logiealmond Primary School were awarded a grant of almost £10,000 from the National Lottery Fund.
They will use the cash to put on a new community project aimed at supporting the health of local youngsters.
The “We Are Logiealmond! Celebrating Communities and Living Landscapes in Our Glenalmond” project will involve young people aged eight to 25 exploring their local heritage and breathing new life into traditional sports, including curling.
Chairwoman of Logiealmond Primary School Parents Group Lindsey Goring said the funding would make a huge difference.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have been awarded £9,400 from the Year of Young People National Lottery Fund to help our local young people spark a change in their lives,” she said.
“A huge thanks to all the National Lottery players who have given our rural community this amazing opportunity, this means a great deal to us all.”
The project will include guided walks to local historic sites, drop-in workshops on archives and oral history, sports training and community cricket and curling matches.
There will also be a visit to a national museum collection, creation of a new information booklet about the area and a celebratory event.
The project will start with a drop-in session at Chapelhill Hall tomorrow between 10am and noon.
