Education that goes far beyond the classroom

-

Possibly the most beautiful school in Scotland, with magnificent buildings set in 300 acres of breathtaking Perthshire countryside, Glenalmond College offers learning that goes well beyond the classroom.

Glenalmond welcomes day and boarding pupils from S1 through to sixth form, with entry points at every stage. In fourth and fifth form, pupils study for GCSEs, while in sixth form they can choose between A Levels and Highers. The breadth of choice at Glenalmond, both in the academic curriculum and beyond the classroom, ensures that every pupil can achieve their potential, and all are encouraged to participate fully in many areas of the school.

Considerable investment in sports facilities and two new boarding houses in recent years have earned the school an enviable reputation as a forward-thinking institution that has successfully built on its rich heritage to offer modern-day dynamic education that plays to each pupil’s talents and ambitions.

As an example of Glenalmond’s drive for excellence, the school has recently appointed golf professional Tim Mitchell to promote plans for a world class golf training facility at the school.

He will supervise planned improvements to Glenalmond’s already impressive facilities which will see an indoor practice range built to complement the existing 9 hole (18 tee) golf course designed by James Braid.

Glenalmond Golf School is part of a larger investment programme which includes an international standard waterbased AstroTurf pitch for hockey with spectator hospitality lodge, a second all-weather multi-sport pitch, a new first team rugby and lacrosse pitch with a 100-seat spectator stand and training facilities, and a cardio-vascular fitness suite and dance and aerobics studio.

It brings the total level of investment in sport and wellness facilities at the school to more than £1 million since 2016.

Sport at all levels is integral to life at Glenalmond, involving every pupil in the school, but equally important are the visual and performing arts.

Music and drama productions are highlights of the school calendar, with regular performances both on campus and across Scotland. That’s not to say that the focus on improving the sports offering means there is any less emphasis on academic rigour, indeed Glenalmond consistently achieves outstanding exam results, with its GCSE pass rate one of the highest in the country.

Teachers are required to continue with their own development and Glenalmond’s Learning Project is a whole school programme focused on raising attainment, ambition and excellence in pupils and staff.

The benefits of a Glenalmond education don’t end after 6th year. The school has a thriving international network of OGs, or Old Glenalmonds as former pupils are known.

The international ethos of the school has been recognised with a British Council award for its “exceptional” work in international education.
