Council vows to tackle problem parking outside primary school

-

Council bosses are planning a crackdown on “selfish” parkers at a Perthshire school.

Concerns have been raised at motorists stopping on pavements and on zigzag lines at crossings outside Errol Primary School.

Following complaints the local authority has committed to patrolling the area in the coming weeks.

The parking has angered residents, who have turned to social media to complain.

One man wrote: “I’m sure yellow zigzags in front of the school means no parking, so why do people think its acceptable for them to park there?”

Local councillor Beth Pover said she is working with communities in relation to the issue, which is also a problem at Invergowrie Primary School.

She said: “I’ve had recent contact with Perth and Kinross Council’s community safety team in response to concern expressed at an Errol Community Council meeting regarding dangerous parking by parents at drop-off and pickup times.

“Various options to manage this problem were put forward by community safety team manager Roddy Ross.

“Issues in relation to parking at certain times in the school day have also been highlighted by members of Invergowrie Primary Parent Council.”

A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council said: “We are aware that some motorists are parking on the ‘school keep clear’ markings and on nearby kerbs and pavements outside Errol Primary School.

“A parking attendant will visit the school on a number of occasions in the coming weeks during drop-off and pick-up times.”
