The infatuation of the wife of a member of Parliament for a golf professional from whom she had received lessons at St Andrews was described in the Divorce Court. Mr Arthur Beck, MP, married his wife in 1895. During a visit to the famous Links at St Andrews, she was coached by David Spittal, who was employed there. Spittal afterwards went to Canada and came over to England with the Canadian forces. In 1918 Mrs Beck said she was going to Godalming to play golf. If approval is given to a health centre in Arbroath, the project could start in 1973. Arbroath Health Committee heard that a meeting had been held about the proposed centre, attended by representatives of the Scottish Home and Health Department, the Town Council and others. Cuff links and other items of “sentimental value” were stolen during a burglary at the Prince of Wales’s apartments in St James’s Palace. A pair of males will appear in court today following a mass brawl in St Andrews. Two young men were seriously hurt in the running battle through the streets. They were taken to Ninewells Hospital after being discovered lying in the street following a raft of 999 calls from concerned members of the public. They had suffered serious, but not life-threatening, facial injuries. Police said bottles were thrown as a group of up to 10 males in their late teens and early 20s chased each other and fought in the town centre.
