A firm has expressed its “devastation” in the wake of a Forfar accident which claimed the life of a 29-year-old man.

Speaking for the first time since Friday’s industrial incident, a spokesman for Oilfast confirmed it was an external supplier’s employee who lost his life while repairing a six-wheel oil tanker at the Forfar depot.

The accident prompted a fullscale emergency response on Friday morning, including the air ambulance.

It is understood the tanker fell on the man. Despite the efforts of specialist teams, he could not be saved.

A spokesman for Oilfast said: “Oilfast are devastated to disclose that a tragic accident took the life of an external supplier’s employee whilst he was attempting to repair one of our vehicles at the Forfar depot on Friday.

“The incident is currently being investigated by the authorities so it’s too early to know the exact circumstances surrounding this terrible incident but at this moment our main thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the person involved.

“Once the official investigation concludes and the events become clearer it will, of course, be made public.”

The incident happened at the Oilfast depot at Orchardbank Business Park around 10.30am.

Part of the A90 beside the site was closed to allow access for emergency vehicles and the area was cordoned off for several hours.

Tributes have been posted on social media in the wake of the accident.

One woman said: “Love and thoughts are with their poor family and loved ones.”

A six-wheel tanker was cordoned off in the north-east corner of the site on Friday night.
