Speakers to debate way forward for Perth at civic trust conference

-

Perth Civic Trust’s annual conference will celebrate the city’s rich heritage, while looking to its future.

The one-day event will take place at the Dewars Centre, Glover Street, on Wednesday and boasts a wide range of speakers.

They will share their experiences working on different heritage projects across Scotland.

A spokesman for the trust said: “We will reflect upon activities undertaken during the Year of Young People and explore how best to support young people’s interest in the past as they become the heritage caretakers of the future.”

The keynote address – Working With Young People: The Fear, The Failure And The Fantastic” – will be given by Dr Jeff Sanders, who delivered high-profile projects for the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

He will discuss the benefits and challenges of working with young people on projects and events.

The packed line-up also features a talk on Stanley Mills (“So much more than the buildings”) by trust chairman David Maclehose; and a discussion on community engagement, heritage and young people by Fiona Watson of Scotland’s Urban Past.

Other speakers include Khaleda Noon of Intercultural Youth Scotland on Listening To Unheard Voices, and Julia Brunner of Celebrating Speyside.

Amy Calder from YouthLink Scotland will look at the impact of the First World War on young women in Scotland.
