Pop idol Michelle helps sell off pupils’ artwork for charity

-

Pupils at Perth Academy are set to have artwork sold to raise money for a local charity.

The artwork created by pupils over the last year in the Believe Commit Connect project will be auctioned at an event launched by Scottish singer Michelle McManus in Perth’s the Venue next month.

As part of the interdisciplinary enterprise project, S1-S6 pupils are raising money for the Salvation Army and gaining life skills.

Teacher Gillian Ferriday said: “We run an enterprise project every year with our additional support needs department and this year we’ve got an art specialist in working with the pupils.

“She has been amazing and she has really inspired the children.

“Each year we try to choose a different charity and this year we’ve gone for the Salvation Army, who do a lot in Perth.

“We’re hoping that after the project some of the pupils will be able to gain some work experience in their shop.

“The pieces of art will all be auctioned off for the charity and we’ve already received over £400 in sponsored framing from local businesses, along with lots of raffle prizes.

“It’s already our biggest fundraiser and if we could hit four figures it would be great. We’ve got 16 artists taking part and the project has been great fun.”

On Monday June 3 there will be a VIP launch party where parents, education officials and council members will be invited to celebrate the pupils’ success.

Any business which would like to support the event by sponsoring a frame or providing raffle prizes can contact the school on 01738 458 000.
