Arfield happy at Ibrox amid Palace interest

-

Rangers ace Scott Arfield insists he is settled at Ibrox as he shrugged off interest from Crystal Palace.

The London outfit have been linked with a £3 million summer swoop for the in-form Gers midfielder.

The former Falkirk, Huddersfield and Burnley midfielder has rediscovered his best form since returning to Scotland to link up with Steven Gerrard last year.

His displays over the past few weeks have seen him named as the Ladbrokes Premiership player of the month for April and, as well as attracting interest from Palace boss Roy Hodgson, Southampton are also reportedly keeping tabs on the 30-year-old.

But Arfield says he is loving the new lease of life he has been given at Rangers following a frustrating end to his stint at Turf Moor.

The Canada international said: “Over the last two years I’ve not played enough football.

“I had a year-and-a-half at Burnley where I was in and out of the team, so this is the happiest I’ve been in years, being at this football club, wearing this badge and walking around here and being back in Glasgow.

“My family is settled and I’m fully focused on doing the right things for Rangers and to win games.

“You know more about (Palace’s interest) than me.”

Meanwhile, manager Gerrard has told Ryan Kent to follow his heart as he weighs up his next move.

The Liverpool loan ace is due to return to Anfield in the summer but Gerrard is desperate to keep the winger at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old double PFA Scotland player and young player of the year nominee admitted earlier this week a second season in Glasgow remains a “possibility” for him.

But he also wants to start putting down solid roots, having found himself being bounced around the UK and Europe on the back of five loan spells in the last four years.

Gerrard knows the decision facing the former England youth international could be the biggest of his young career and his advice was simple: “Go where you will be happy.”

Responding to Kent’s “possibility” comment, the Ibrox boss said: “It’s not as reassuring as seeing his signature on a dotted line but it is a possibility, that’s where it’s at.

“Ryan knows we want him but we have to be respectful that the kid has a big decision to make.

“Now my advice is – ‘Go where you think you’ll be happy, improve and take your career to the next level.’”
