Bluebells want to get back to winning ways

-

After Wednesday’s 5-2 League Cup defeat at Carnoustie’s hands, Super League leaders Lochee United will be hoping to bounce back with a win at Fauldhouse to maintain their undefeated league record.

They head to the Lothians looking for an eighth straight league win against a side sitting joint second bottom on 19 points.

Bottom side Glenrothes take on second-placed Broughty Athletic at Warout.

The visitors must win in the hope of keeping the pressure on Lochee United but are likely to be missing Brad Smith.

After the crazy finish to Wednesday’s Consolation Cup draw with Tayport in which three goals were scored in the last 12 minutes, Forfar West End visit Livingston United in the DJ Laing East Region Cup.

Daryl McKenzie’s men must not underestimate their opponents who only need a point to secure second in the South League.

Carnoustie are again in cup action, away to Downfield in the Thorntons Property League Cup.

But they’ll be wary having recently lost to the Spiders in the league at Laing Park.

Apart from Paddy Conway who has a fractured hip, the Gowfers have everyone else available.

In their opening group game, Kinnoull have a testing tie at home to Pumpherston.

On the way to landing the South League title, the visitors have lost just twice and having completed the double over Livingston in midweek, head the section with six points.

The Tulloch Park side are in good form with only one defeat in their last 15 outings but have concerns over flu-hit players Liam Woolley, Mark Smith, Fraser Morrison and Lukasz Osinski.

Thornton Hibs entertain Armadale Thistle and must win to have any chance of qualifying. Hibs however have four players missing due to work, injury and holidays.

Without having played, North End have been crowned Premier League North champions. Their only defeat this season to Kinnoull was confirmed as having been reversed this week.

The Perth side won 3-1 in January, but a North End protest that keeper Lukasz Osinski was ineligible was upheld and the points awarded to the Dokens.

After an appeal the original decision was upheld at an SJFA meeting on Thursday evening.

Kinnoull do have the right of a further appeal to the SFA.

Although the North League title is no longer attainable for Luncarty, Kinnoull’s points deduction assures them of finishing runners-up.

Violet also fared badly last week, losing 3-0 at home to North End, so will want to bring down the curtain on their league season with a victory.

Having put eight past Blairgowrie last week, it would be a brave man to bet against Tayport completing the double over the Berrypickers in the Canniepairt return in the Consolation Cup.

Boosted by last week’s win over Lochore Welfare, Lochgelly Albert welcome Super League Kennoway Star Hearts hoping to reverse the 1-0 defeat they suffered at their hands in the first meeting. Hearts are without the suspended Craig Johnstone.

With Glenrothes having won section 5, only pride is at stake when Newburgh welcome Kirkcaldy YM who are without Connor McManus, Sam Gillespie, Ryan McEwan, Ryan Couser and Ross Ogden.

In Section 2, Scone Thistle, narrowly beaten by North End in midweek, will surely return to winning ways at home to Coupar Angus.

Thistle are without the injured Liam Malone and Martin Strachan is a doubt.

Although currently third bottom in the South League, provided Rosyth collect three points in their last two games, they are guaranteed to climb a minimum of three places. Their penultimate opponents are Harthill Royal at the Fleet Grounds. The Recs lost 4-1 in the first meeting so will hope to gain revenge.
