Dundee Stars have re-signed forward Jordan Cownie for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Dundonian will return for a third year with his boyhood club, and head coach Omar Pacha was delighted to tie up the 23-year-old for another season.

In the last campaign the centreman made 68 appearances, netted 16 goals and created 21 more.

Cownie also won the Elite League’s Young British Player of the Year award for the 2018/19 season and was EIHL Player of the Month for November and Player of the Week for November 25.

After leaving the Dundee Stars youth set-up, Cownie had spells with two other Elite League clubs. His time with Nottingham Panthers saw him play in six Champions Hockey League group stage matches and win the Ehrhardt Conference trophy before joining Braehead Clan.

In four EIHL campaigns he has iced in 133 matches and scored 26 goals, while assisting on 41 others.

The Scot also has 25 caps for Team GB at U18 and U20 levels and has totalled 34 points for his country.

He was part of the side that won gold in the U20 World Junior Championships Division 2A.

After confirming Cownie would return for next season, Pacha said: “Jordan is a player that I really wanted back from last year.

“He was one of the younger and better Brits in the league so it was important for us to keep him, and also I think he still has a lot to prove.

“This year we gave him a great opportunity to play and a great opportunity to succeed and I thought he did well, but we are expecting bigger and better things from Jordan next season.”

“For me it was an easy decision. I have worked with Jordan for two years so I wanted him back for a third year to see how he can improve even more.”

Cownie said: “It is great to be back for a third year and I am really excited for this upcoming season.

“We finished really strong last year and after a few good chats with Omar and obviously getting something sorted, I think it is exciting the way the club is heading.”
