Dundee HSFP bid to chalk up back-to-back victories

-

It was not the opening Saturday to the season that eight out of the 10 Strathmore and Perthshire NEC clubs would have wanted.

Last week two games were rained off, two started and had to be abandoned and only one reached a conclusion.

The game which did end in a result saw Dundee HSFP come out on top against Mannofield by five wickets and they are at Dalnacraig again this week to face Strathmore.

ASI Gordonians were going well against io8 Forfarshire 2nds at 96-1 with Abrar Ahmed not out on when the heavens opened and they will hope that their batting can continue in similar vein when they face Mannofield at Countesswells with the home side looking to put last week’s defeat behind them.

Strathmore didn’t see a ball bowled against Meigle who are away this week to Kinloch, who are also playing their first league match after promotion to the top league.

The match at Forfar was building up to a tasty looking climax when the rain came with io8 Forfarshire 2nd having posted 206-9 thanks to scores in the 40s from James Girolami and Graeme Black, with Graeme Garden adding 32 .

With Abrar Ahmed unbeaten on 52, it was a massive disappointment when the rain halted the ASI Gordonians innings at 96-1.

Forfarshire 2nd are at home again this week against Arbroath United, who had Falkland at 212-8 after 45 overs but managed only three runs in the one over possible before rain took control.

But it means that Falkland have at least that innings under their belt when they take on Perth Doo’cot at Doo’cot Park unlike their opponents, whose clash with Kinloch was a total washout.
